'Facebook Activism: How Powerful Can It Be?' is an opinion editorial that I wrote for the Jakarta Post in August 2009 as the waves of Web 2.0 activism seemed to have swept the whole world. Around that time Facebook's 'Cause' also grew exponentially. In this article I discussed if such activism is strong and resilient enough, considering the various factors including government regulations towards citizen's access to social media, the extent of digital citizen's belief and sentiment towards a Cause, and the effectiveness of fundraising and disbursement through the Cause.
