stories, thoughts, experiences
I am Asri, an Indonesian woman who, driven by her interest and passion, has been establishing a career in the communication field since 2001. In 2006 I shifted my career from broadcast media to disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster management public awareness and communications. To date, I have worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Indonesia and Myanmar, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Indonesia.
I studied English Linguistics at Diponegoro University, Semarang, Indonesia. Further, I took a Master's Degree in Communications, majoring in Intercultural/Interpersonal Communications Studies at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Albany, New York, USA with the Fulbright scholarship granted by the US Department of State.
In June 2014, my mother's illness, and later my health conditions with autoimmune diseases, including Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), made me decide to shift from full-time arrangement to freelance consultancy. This way, I can still contribute my thoughts and skills while managing my daily working schedule at my own pace.
Here in my blog you will find a recollection of my thoughts, and stories. I also share some publications in which I have been involved as the author, co-editor, or resource person. I would also love to invite you to the places I have traveled, through my stories and photographs.
